Al-AFAQ: Journal of Ilmu Falak and Astronomy (Department of Ilmu Falak, Faculty of Sharia, Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram; p-ISSN: 2685-0176 | e-ISSN: 2722-0176) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal published by the Ilmu Falak Study Program at the Faculty of Sharia, Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Mataram.

This journal is published twice a year, in June and December, and is indexed in Sinta 5. Al-AFAQ is also a CrossRef member, ensuring that all published articles receive a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI). All content is freely accessible and available for download on the journal's website.

The journal is dedicated to providing a scholarly platform for the publication and dissemination of research and ideas in the field of Islamic astronomy (Ilmu Falak). It encompasses a broad range of topics, including:

Qibla Direction Determination: Studies on traditional and modern methods to determine the direction of the Qibla using astronomical data and geospatial technologies.
Hisab and Rukyah: Research on computational (hisab) and observational (rukyah) approaches for determining the beginning of the Hijri month.
Hilal Observation: Field studies and analytical reports on crescent moon sightings, including instrument usage, site analysis, and visibility criteria.
Islamic Calendar and Timekeeping: Investigations into global Hijri calendar synchronization, prayer time systems, and related calendrical issues.
Digital Falakiyah: The use of digital tools and software in astronomical calculations, visual simulations, and mobile applications related to Islamic timekeeping and observations.
Eclipses and Celestial Phenomena: Scientific and religious perspectives on solar and lunar eclipses, planetary events, and other astronomical occurrences.
