Abstract

The Aji Saka calendar system is one of the oldest lunisolar calendars used in the Land of Java, several elements in the Aji Saka Calendar system are still being adopted in the Javanese Islamic Calendar. The Aji Saka calendar was created in 78 AD, by a figure from Hindustan named Aji Saka. This paper is the result of a literature study (Library Research) that is analytically descriptive in nature which describes the Javanese Saka Calendar in the Description of Candrasengkala and Serat Pustakaraja Purwa with a historical approach. Until finally during the reign of Mataram Islam under the leadership of Sultan Agung, the Saka calendar was reformed and combined with the Hijri Calendar to become the Islamic Javanese Calendar that we know today.
