KEPUTUSAN ORANG TUA DALAM MENENTUKAN PENDIDIKAN DASAR ANAK BERKEBUTUHAN KHUSUS

This study aims to understand how parents in Ombe Baru Village make decisions regarding basic education for children with special needs. The dilemma that is often experienced by people is always feeling confused about the future of their children. This feeling can affect their emotions and social, which can affect the decision-making process. In addition, the ability of parents to understand their children's needs is also a challenge in choosing the right education. The method used in this study is qualitative. The subjects of this study were 3 pairs of parents of children with special needs. The results of the study show that the decision-making process by parents in determining basic education for children with special needs goes through several stages. The first stage is looking for information or problems by paying attention to the child's growth and development conditions. The second stage is surveying and considering alternatives can be seen from the parents' abilities and the characteristics of the ideal school for the child. The third stage states a commitment where parents will be actively involved in the child's education journey. This is not easy, there are several challenges that parents go through in making decisions, namely internal and external challenges. Internal challenges can affect self-acceptance, limited information, and social stigma. While external challenges can affect the condition of resources and support from the surrounding environment.
